Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride 2009

The Freeth Cartwright Corporate Challenge

The second Freeth Cartwright Corporate Challenge was held on the longest day, Sunday 21 June, but thankfully no-one needed all the daylight hours to get round the 75, 50 and 18 mile circuits beginning and ending at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

Alongside up to 4,000 other cyclists taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride, 75 riders mounted their bikes in ideal cycling conditions, with no sign of the strong winds that had toyed with the participants on the return leg of the inaugural Challenge in 2008.

The "Challenge" is for the teams to raise as much money as possible for the 4 nominated charities- Marie Curie Cancer Care, When You Wish Upon a Star, CP (Cerebral Palsy)Sport and Rainbows. The target to beat is last year's total of around £15,000.

Philippa Dempster, Head of Commercial Services at Freeth Cartwright, who completed the 18 mile route with something to spare, said:

"Even though times remain uncertain, we wanted to continue to support the Challenge and were very pleased with the turnout, which shows people are still prepared to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning and onto their bikes in support of some really worthwhile causes.

Our thanks go to all the volunteers who helped out on the day and to those organisations which took part in the Challenge or otherwise supported the event."

If you would like to support the above charities then please make donations payable to "GNBR" and forward to Marie Quinn at Cumberland Court, 80 Mount Street, Nottingham, NG1 6HH.

What a fantastic and well organised day out for all involved. Not only did it raise money for a great cause, but also inspired several of my staff to start cycling to work...proof that these kind of events really do work!!!

Team Morgan Ashurst would like to offer an immense thank you to all at Freeth for another excellent day.  To say it was only the second year is testament to the effort gone into the organising.  And as hard as the 50 miles was for many of us it is important to remember the worthwhile causes we were all there for.

See you next year.

Oakfield Construction http://www.oakfieldconstruction.co.uk/
On behalf of Mark and the rest of our team we would like to thank Freeth Cartwright for the excellent hospitality on Sunday, the weather was excellent for the ride as you say we can remember the bad winds last year causing the ride to be a long hard slog. Apart from the 50 miler done with yourself we also had 20 other riders doing the 18 so we had a great day.
Liz Flint, Oakfield Construction

Skanska Facilities Services (entering two teams) http://www.skanska.co.uk/en/
thanks for the work your team put into the bike ride.  It was a great day and I have received very positive feedback from all of my staff that took part in the day's events.  I completed the 75 mile sportive and as a regular 'club' cyclist I can say the route was enjoyable and well supported, we stopped once at Wellow and the setting and refreshments (and the weather) were as good as it gets.

I think you have this event just right and I will work on increasing Skanska's involvement next year.

Robert McCullum, Skanska
