Representing a woman whose husband died of malaria following a business trip to West Africa. He telephoned the emergency doctor on his return complaining of classic symptoms of malaria, but was reassured that his condition was not serious and to see his GP in the next few days. He died 2 days later at home. His death would have been prevented if he had been treated promptly. His widow was awarded compensation of £220,000. Settlement of £60,000 on behalf of a patient who became seriously ill after a surgeon caused damage to a bile duct during an operation to remove her gall-bladder. Settlement of a case for £275,000 on behalf of a woman, whose GP severed the median nerve in her wrist when he attempted to remove a ganglion. She was left with a deformed and dysfunctional hand and could not return to her job as a secretary. |
