This month’s launch (January) of Real Estate Investment Trusts (Reits) will bring New Year cheer to shareholders in some of the biggest UK property companies, according to Richard Beverley, investment partner in regional law firm Freeth Cartwright LLP.

The rules for Reits were the subject of much lobbying by the property industry throughout last year, which has now engineered an effective vehicle for investors seeking exposure to commercial property without the transactional costs of direct investment.

A company that owns and operates three care homes in the Burton area has been acquired by an Essex-based group.

Rowans Care Homes Limited has been sold to the Elder Group, which currently has approximately a £10m a year turnover, 520 service users and 420 staff.

The deal means that the Elder Group now owns Bridge Court, which provides residential care for the elderly, Burton Court, which provides specialist care for service users with mental health needs and Trent Court, which provides specialist care for service users with challenging behaviour.

Regional law firm, Freeth Cartwright, has developed its own matter centric software system, Case Viewer, a browser based system that will allow its lawyers and secretarial teams to work more effectively by giving them faster access to client matter information.

Case Viewer will offer the firm’s lawyers easy access to a single work environment within Outlook and vastly reduce its massive physical storage requirements, as well as contributing to the firm’s environmentally friendly paper reduction initiative.
