A former employee of Enterprise Rent-A-Car (UK) Ltd has won her unfair dismissal case against the company – a dismissal which was deemed to have been issued following the employee’s expressed intention to take adoption leave.

Regional law firm Freeth Cartwright has been accredited with Lexcel, the Law Society’s practice management quality mark – a standard that will help it improve its service to clients and its own employees.
Freeth Cartwright achieved the nationally recognised quality mark, following a year of preparation and assessment. Throughout this assessment period, the firm had to demonstrate that it met the Law Society’s Practice Management Standards in eight key areas of its business, from financial and people management to structures and policies and client care.

As announcements are made that house prices are continuing to rise in 2007, leading regional law firm Freeth Cartwright has acknowledged that new planning guidelines will give councils more scope to determine the types and number of houses built in their areas.
Whilst this is aimed at reducing the housing crisis, the impact may be the reverse as landowners may be reluctant to bring their land forward for development if they are unable to build what they perceive the market demands.

Local government and public involvement in Health Bill
This Bill was given its first reading in the Commons on 12th December 2006, seeking as it does to enact many of the provisions of the Local Government White Paper / ‘Strong and Prosperous Communities’.

Whilst the majority of the Companies Act will not come into force until October 2008, provisions relating to the way companies communicate with shareholders and others will come into force on 20 January 2007.
Under a new directive, there is also, from 1 January 2007, a requirement to put certain company information on all electronic communications.
