Commercial property expert Peter Hanson has joined the team at regional law firm Freeth Cartwright, further enhancing its reputation.Peter joins from London-based Davies Arnold Cooper, where he had been an equity partner since 2004. One of the projects he worked on was the acquisition of a partially-let 14,000 sq ft office unit on the Nottingham Business Park, a building now part-occupied by the DVLA.

Bubbly-loving entrepreneur Steve Jackson - a former chief executive of Preston North End and still a significant shareholder in the club - is raising a flute after defeating a bid to make him give up the www.champagne.co.uk domain name. The site contains information about vintages and bottle sizes and allows visitors to order champagnes from around the Champagne region of France. Steve himself enjoys a glass of Bollinger, Dom Perignon or, if he can find a bottle, Krug 1990.

Charity law specialists at legal firm Freeth Cartwright have advised on an “acquisition” that sees a former Co-op building in Langley Mill, known locally as The Bridge Centre, secured for the community.The building was constructed in 1875 and was refurbished as a community building in the 1990s, by Langley Mill & Aldercar Community Resource Centre, a local charity, providing a café, meeting rooms and an events area.

In this month’s review we report on two cases that provide further guidance on the statutory dispute resolution procedures. One of these is particularly important, as it determined that an employer’s notes taken during a meeting with an employee could fulfil step one of the statutory grievance procedures. We also consider a Court of Appeal decision that has provided some further guidance on when communications will be regarded as being ‘without prejudice’ and therefore inadmissible in legal proceedings.
