Edward McDonagh was a normal seven-year-old child, doing the normal things that any boy his age would be doing.

Then, just before Christmas 1997, and just before his eighth birthday, fate intervened. Edward was a passenger in a car that was involved in a road accident, and, although he was properly strapped in, he took the full force of the impact and sustained major head injuries
