BANKING SPECIALISTS AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME

When it comes to providing top-tier banking legal advice, understanding your client’s needs and being commercially aware are essential requirements for ensuring  transactions are concluded effectively and efficiently.

Once again it’s these key attributes that have confirmed the banking team at Freeth Cartwright as Number One in the East Midlands, according to Legal 500, the largest and most in-depth survey of the UK legal market.

Phil Baigent and John Heaphy lead the Freeth Cartwright banking and finance team that focuses on all aspects of finance law, including acquisition finance, syndicated loans and property finance.

Phil said: “We are naturally delighted that our peers and clients have reaffirmed our position as the top firm for banking and finance for the second year running. This public accolade vindicates our decision earlier this year to formally establish the banking and finance group which draws upon the wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that Freeth Cartwright has in this area of the law.”

The banking group advises clients across the firm’s offices in Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester, Derby and Manchester with Phil devoting all of his time to banking and finance work. Other members of the team include the highly-experienced Chris Freeston, who has advised lenders on the €225m financing of the construction of a portfolio of windfarms and advised Anglo Irish Bank on property transactions worth in excess of £100m over the past eight months. Chris has also advised one of the world’s largest private companies on a €3.7 billion loan facility.

In addition to the Legal 500 tribute, Chambers UK (2008 Edition) has recently heralded the banking and finance team as “can-do lawyers who get the deal done”. Both John and Phil were singled out as leaders in the field of banking and finance.

Recent transactions which the banking and finance team have been involved in include advising Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets on its funding of a multi-million pound management buy out, advising HF Eimskipafaleg Islands on its 300,000,000 syndicated loan facility with ABN AMRO, advising Bank of Scotland on a multi-million pound property development facility and advising Yorkshire Bank on its funding of the acquisition of Crawshaw Butchers Limited by Richard Rose Acquisitions.
