YEAR-END FIGURES SEE SHARP INCREASE

Commercial law firm Freeth Cartwright has seen its turnover increase from £31.150m to £33.5m, in the same financial year that has seen it open new offices in Birmingham, move location in Leicester and expand in Manchester.

Recently released, Year-end figures from 2007/08 show that the firm, which also has offices in Nottingham and Derby, saw a 7.5 per cent increase in fees generated, a rise that chief executive Peter Smith says is down to strong performances across all disciplines, but in particular corporate finance and real estate.

Peter Smith commented: “Once again, our success is down to the work we do for our clients, and the commercial approach we take to understanding what factors impact on their business.

“Not only do our clients appreciate the experience and knowledge of the teams they work with, but they also welcome our different approach to doing business. The construction team for example frequently empowers its clients’ legal teams by transferring knowledge, and the real estate team is continually providing support to clients who can see opportunities in seemingly difficult times.”

It has been an award-winning year for Freeth Cartwright, with its Case Viewer, a bespoke software system that provides a comprehensive electronic work environment for lawyers, beating three other major UK law firms to take the coveted Fee Earner Desktop/Portal of the Year Award at the Legal Technology Awards.

Freeth Cartwright, which currently has 85 members and a total staff of over 500, was also named in the coveted Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2008 list. The firm also scooped a separate Best Companies award.

Peter continued: “This year we have not only been focusing on continuing the good work for our clients, but also on strengthening our position, with the move to the prestigious One Colton Square development in Leicester, and the opening of the Birmingham office at One Victoria Square. Our Manchester team is also expanding, with the firm moving into larger premises.

“The achievements here though are also mirrored by the investment in people, with the Best Companies and Sunday Times accolades being a reflection of the firm’s commitment, ensuring that staff find working here both professionally and personally rewarding.”
