FREETH CARTWRIGHT RISES TO THE CHALLENGE AT GREAT NOTTS BIKE RIDE
Law firm Freeth Cartwright has praised the endurance of the teams who entered its inaugural Great Notts Bike Ride (GNBR) Corporate Challenge.
The business community of the East Midlands came together on June 22 to cycle in blustery conditions to raise in excess of £15,000 for the five nominated charities: Marie Curie Cancer Care; Cerebral Palsy Sport; When You Wish Upon A Star; Rainbows Hospice, and the Geoff Thomas Foundation.
There were 24 teams, each made up of five cyclists, who cycled either the 18-mile or 50-mile route for the Freeth Cartwright Corporate Challenge, joining the approximate 4,000 riders who took on the GNBR this year.
The 50-mile route took riders from the National Watersports Centre, at Holme Pierrepont just outside Nottingham, up to Newark and back, while the 18-mile riders took a similar route up and down the Trent Valley.

Philippa Dempster, head of commercial services commented: “The whole event was a great day out for families and had a real festival feel, not least thanks to the team of mystery chopper bike riders who completed the course in Superhero fancy dress and encouraged everybody else to finish the ride as quickly as they could.
“We’re still collating all the money the Corporate Challengers have raised for the nominated charities, but we’re delighted that it will be in the region of £15,000 - it’s a great effort for the first year of the challenge and one we hope we can build on in years to come.”
The GNBR was organised by Nottinghamshire County Council with sponsorship from Alliance Boots, who provided many volunteers who remained steadfastly at their posts all day to ensure that the tiring cyclists had constant encouragement.
Philippa added: “We would like to thank all the companies who gave up their time to help us make the day such a success, with a special thanks to Alan at Trent Motorist Centre in Radcliffe-on Trent who carried out an impromptu pit stop repair to the pedal of one of our own Corporate Challengers - Amy - which enabled her to complete the ride.”
The companies who participated in the 2008 Great Notts Bike Ride (GNBR) Corporate Challenge were BCS, Boots, Cooper Parry, Dollar Finance, EC Harris, Finesse Hotels, Fisher Hargreaves Proctor, Grant Thornton, Like Minded, Morgan Ashurst, Nattrass Giles, PwC, Quiss, Skanska, Sytner, Tenon, and the Wilson Organisation.
