Get in the running for Corporate Relay Challenge at the Leicester Marathon
GET IN THE RUNNING FOR CORPORATE RELAY CHALLENGE AT THE LEICESTER MARATHON
Law firm Freeth Cartwright is inviting runners from the business world to take part in the inaugural Freeth Cartwright Corporate Relay Challenge, part of this year’s Leicester Marathon.
Teams of four runners will be entered in to the relay event, which is being held to raise money for three nominated charities - LOROS, Rainbow’s Hospice and St John’s Ambulance.
The race will take place on Sunday, October 19 starting at 9.15 am and will involve each team member running approximately 3.25 miles over the half marathon course. Each runner will carry a band with a computer chip for timing purposes, which they will need to pass on to the next team runner at the fixed transition stages.
The event starts and finishes at Victoria Park, Leicester, with an entry fee of £100 per team - and any other donation teams may feel appropriate. Both the entry fee and the full amount of any donations will be given to the charities.
David West, a partner at Colton Square-based Freeth Cartwright and himself a keen runner, commented: “The Leicester Marathon is a superb event that is now a firm fixture in the events calendar for the city. We felt we should throw down the gauntlet to the business people of Leicester and further afield to get their running shoes on, compete in the team relay and raise money for charity at the same time.”
Christian Weikert-Picker, race director, said “This event is another key piece to the whole experience of the Leicester City Marathon, I am grateful to David West for the idea and support from Freeth Cartwright. The Corporate Relay promises to be fun yet challenging to those taking part, I am sure whether you are a serious runner or just on the path to fitness you’ll enjoy taking part; who knows, maybe next year you will take part in the full marathon!”
A special launch event is being held at Freeth Cartwright’s Colton Square offices on Wednesday, 10th September 5-30 - 7.30 pm, when Teams will be invited along to find out more about the event and possibly register on the night.
Rob Pullen, who owns the Leicester Running Shop, in Clarendon Park Road, is also urging people to take part. He said: “Running is a brilliant sport to get involved with as it’s a good reason to get out in the fresh air, get fit, and relieve some of the stress of day-to-day work.”
The marathon itself is sponsored by the dairy, Kirby & West.
There will be a Freeth Cartwright hospitality marquee at Victoria Park for the weary runners and Freeth Cartwright is keen to hear from anyone who does not want to run but does want to get involved.
