FREETH CARTWRIGHT MAINTAINS REGIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT STATUS

Law firm Freeth Cartwright has maintained its “regional heavyweight” status in the most authoritative guide to UK legal firms.

The firm, with offices in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Birmingham and Manchester, once again rates highly in Legal 500, the annual independent guide that ranks legal firms regionally and in categories such as corporate and commercial, banking and finance, and employment.

As well as the firm itself being ranked first in the East Midlands, it also comes out on top in 10 categories, including for the first time the tax team, led by partner Bob Neal.

The 10 categories are:

• Banking and Finance
• Construction
• Corporate tax
• Employment
• Information Technology
• Insurance - Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence - Claimant
• Personal Tax, Trusts & Probate
• Property Litigation
• Real Estate
• Sport

The guide picks out certain categories for comment, such as Banking and finance, where it states: “Freeth Cartwright LLP’s newly established, cross-practice banking group is headed by Phil Baigent, who advised Lloyds TSB on the provision of £15m revolving credit facilities to Alumasc Group in 2007. The team advised 12 different banks and financial institutions on 45 pure banking transactions with a deal value of over £680m.”

And in employment, the guide says: “Also with an impressive and expanding client list in the public and private sectors, Freeth Cartwright LLP has employment lawyers across the East Midlands advising on employee and directorial issues and appearing at dismissal and discrimination tribunals.”

Philippa Dempster, the firm’s head of commercial services, commented: “It’s been another good year for everyone, but in particular for Bob Neal and his team who have come up to 1st category for tax which is extremely pleasing.

“It’s a big well done everyone, whose focus is on providing clients with legal answers and an excellent customer service, has helped us to achieve these top positions. I am personally extremely proud to be working with so many top teams and people.”

Legal 500 also highlights the lawyers who it regards as leading lights in their field. Picked out for particular mention for Freeth Cartwright are:

Paul Balen (Personal injury and clinical negligence: claimant); Guy Berwick (Construction); Jane Goulding (Personal injury and clinical negligence: claimant); John Heaphy (Corporate and commercial; banking and finance); Karl Jansen (Corporate and commercial); David Potter (Employment); Simon Taylor (Sport); Ian Tempest (Real Estate) and Nigel Tomkins (Personal injury: claimant).
