FREETH CARTWRIGHT SOLICITOR EMBARKS ON BORNEO TRIP

A solicitor from Midlands heavyweight law firm Freeth Cartwright is about to swap her hectic working day to embark on an intrepid expedition to Borneo for youth and education charity, Raleigh.

Philippa Edwards, a real estate specialist with the firm will travel to Borneo on 17th June to be a Project Manager. The project will either be based in a remote village installing a gravity feed water system or building a kindergarten, or in the depths of the Borneo rainforests improving access for scientists. Philippa will be facilitating a diverse range of volunteers aged from 17 to 24 including disadvantaged young people and host country venturers.

Ms Edwards said: “The aim of the expedition is to facilitate the volunteers’ development whilst working on projects which make a positive and sustainable difference to the local community or environment. Raleigh works in partnership with the government and local communities to ensure the projects are genuinely needed.”

Participating in a Raleigh Project is all about challenge and discovery and particularly so for the Project Managers who must take responsibility for the allocated project.

Ms Edwards added: “This is a brilliant opportunity for me to get out there and make a difference. It’s going to be hard work and I’ll be living in basic conditions and braving the creepy crawlies, but I hope to make a positive contribution to the lives of others.”

Mike Copestake, a Freeth Cartwright partner commented: “We’re full of admiration for Philippa and the firm is pleased to sponsor half of her fundraising costs for the expedition. Things like this are an important part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme. One of the huge benefits to us is that we also get the opportunity to develop one of our younger members of staff. We wish Philippa the best of luck with her venture.”

Rachel Collinson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Raleigh said: “Philippa will be making a fantastic contribution not only to the development of the young people in her project team but also to the local communities and environments in which she’ll be working. We are very pleased that Freeth Cartwright is supporting Philippa on her expedition as it shows the firm’s belief in Raleigh as a charity which makes a huge impact on the professional and personal development of participants.”
