THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY RISE TO THE CHALLENGE FOR THE SECOND YEAR
The second Freeth Cartwright Corporate Challenge was held on the longest day, Sunday 21 June, but thankfully no-one needed all the daylight hours to get round the 75, 50 and 18 mile circuits beginning and ending at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.
Alongside up to 4,000 other cyclists taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride (GNBR), 75 riders from the business community mounted their bikes in ideal cycling conditions, with no sign of the strong winds that had toyed with the participants on the return leg of the inaugural Challenge in 2008.
The “Challenge” was for the teams to raise as much money as possible for the 4 nominated charities- Marie Curie Cancer Care, When You Wish Upon a Star, CP (Cerebral Palsy) Sport and Rainbows. The target to beat is last year’s total of around £15,000.
Philippa Dempster, head of commercial services at Freeth Cartwright, who completed the 18 mile route with something to spare, said:
“Even though times remain uncertain, we wanted to continue to support the Challenge and were very pleased with the support from businesses, which shows people are still prepared to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning and onto their bikes in support of some really worthwhile causes.
Our thanks go to all the volunteers who helped out on the day and to those organisations which took part in the Challenge or otherwise supported the event.”
A big thank you to the following companies who took part in the 2009 GNBR Corporate Challenge Bike Ride:
Finesse Hotels; Grant Thornton; Harrison Working Spaces; IKEA; Likeminded; Morgan Ashurst; NHS Nottingham City; Oakfield Construction; Skanska and 3 teams from Freeth Cartwright.
Other businesses who were unable to be involved with the ride on the day still had valuable input by making a contribution to the charities and if you would like to support the above charities then please make donations payable to “GNBR” and forward to Marie Quinn at Cumberland Court, 80 Mount Street, Nottingham, NG1 6HH.
ends - 26 June 2009
