FREETH CARTWRIGHT APPOINTS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY HEAD IN BIRMINGHAM

The Birmingham office of Midlands heavyweight law firm Freeth Cartwright has appointed leading Midlands intellectual property lawyer Simon Barker to head up its IP division at the Colmore Row-based practice.

Simon joins from rival Birmingham firm Martineau with over a decade’s legal experience in the region, including several years at the Nottingham office of Browne Jacobson and a spell in industry. He will be specialising in all aspects of intellectual property including trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and confidential information and privacy issues.

Freeth Cartwright’s Birmingham managing partner Richard Beverley said: “Simon is an experienced operator with substantial knowledge of the IP and media litigation process. He has acted in several cases before the High Court and in the Court of Appeal and has also mediated successfully in intellectual property disputes.

“He will be advising clients across a wide range of business sectors on issues such as advertising and marketing law, email and data protection restrictions, brand licensing and protection, sponsorship and product endorsement.”

Simon’s arrival follows last month’s appointment of Freeth Cartwright’s new head of insolvency in Birmingham, Mike Gilmour, and comes on the back of a sound two years of trading for the firm in the city. Its sizeable growth led to a relocation last April from Victoria Square to larger city centre premises on Colmore Row. Freeth Cartwright also has offices in Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and Manchester.
