Employment Tribunal statistics released
EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL STATISTICS RELEASED
The Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) 2009-10 statistics have recently been published.
Julian Middleton, Employment and Managing Partner at the Leicester office of law firm Freeth Cartwright said: “The statistics bear out what we have anecdotally known for some time - the number of claims is on the increase despite the Government’s efforts to reduce them - and that there are more unfair dismissal and redundancy related claims, generally as a result of the economic downturn.”
Key findings from the report include:
• The figures show an overall increase of 56% in the number of claims accepted, their highest ever level.
• There was a 17% increase in the number of Unfair Dismissal claims together with redundancy and breach of contract.
• There was a significant decrease in claims in which the first hearing took place within 26 weeks of the claim being received.
• There was a 14% increase in the number of single claims accepted by Employment Tribunals.
• There was a 22% increase in the number of disposals. 400,000 claims remained outstanding.
