German locum criticised at Inquest

GERMAN LOCUM CRITICISED AT INQUEST

An operation on a 94 year old Lincolnshire pensioner conducted by a German locum surgeon at Grantham Hospital was described by an expert witness as “the worst case of negligence I have come across in my clinical career” at an Inquest into her death held at Sleaford today.

Professor Angus Wallace told the Coroner Stuart Fisher that he found the degree of negligence involved in the operation “disturbing”.

FREETH CARTWRIGHT AND ORBIS PARTNERS LINK UP FOR ELITE CREATIONS ACQUISITION

Less than a month after spearheading the successful multimillion pound management buyout of international fashion accessory supplier Elite Creations, Midlands law firm Freeth Cartwright has once again teamed up with Birmingham-based corporate finance advisers Orbis Partners to facilitate Elite’s first corporate deal of 2010.

The two firms have advised London and Hong Kong-based Elite on the acquisition of Phase Two Accessories in Fulham, a company with a £5m annual turnover which supplies handbags to UK mid-market retailers. The financial consideration is undisclosed.

Employment Update - February 2010

In this month’s review we look at recent cases relating to the right to legal representation
at disciplinary hearings and the preconditions that must be met in order for an employer
to fall under a duty to conduct a risk assessment for a pregnant worker. We also consider
two recent decisions concerning an employer’s right to refuse annual leave requests and
a surprising and controversial case in which an agency worker was found to have no
protection against discrimination.

Disabled Nottinghamshire woman awarded multi-million pound judgment

DISABLED NOTTINGHAMSHIRE WOMAN AWARDED MULTI-MILLION POUND JUDGMENT

A multi-million pound compensation award for disabled 21 year old Nottinghamshire woman Chantelle Peters was approved by the High Court in Nottingham today.

At an earlier court hearing Mrs Susan Miles, a partner in Freeth Cartwright LLP Solicitors who in view of Chantelle’s disability has been apppointed to manage her affairs, successfully claimed compensation for the injuries she had suffered.
