My current role at Freeth Cartwright is working as a HR Officer, where I act as the face of HR out into the business, and the voice of the business back into HR. It really is about managing two dynamic, intertwined relationships. No two days are the same. You have to build good relationships, trusting in the specialists' expert knowledge whilst often thinking the business's next thoughts before they've even thought them. The variety, the breadth, and the feeling of being trusted as an advisor to the business make for a thoroughly enjoyable role!

Before joining Freeth Cartwright I worked as an HR Adviser for Rolls Royce, providing a generalist HR service to several business/functional areas within Civil Aerospace.

Give advice about HR matters, which covers off the legal risks, but also takes account of the organisation's culture, the business drivers, and the need to keep our employees engaged and committed to the firm. Finding an Employee Relations solution is often about understanding what makes people tick, and not just what the legal risks are.

Recruitment and Resourcing - meet short and long-term strategic requirements in a dynamic labour market. Have to plan for changing demographics, the supply and demand for labour, staff turnover and scarce skills.

Developing networks with suppliers that make it easier to attract talented individuals cost-effectively over the longer term.

Advise managers on the interpretation and implementation of HR policies and procedures to ensure appropriate decisions or recommendations regarding employment matters are made.

Maintain and assist in the development of the HR software database to produce efficient management information in line with manager's requirements, e.g. absence management reports.

Involvement with the IIP programme and assist with the running of the Firms CSR Scheme.
